Mionetto Aperitivo (11%)

In the wake of Aperol’s popularity, several similar and equally strong products have hit the market. Now every reputable Italian winery also offers its own aperitif. Mionetto is a traditional winery that was founded in 1889 by Francesto Mionetto. Mionetto’s main product is prosecco, which the company produces in more than a dozen different versions. According to the manufacturer, Mionetto Aperativo is made from 100% natural ingredients. The most essential of these are various citrus fruits (blood orange, lemon, bitter orange), but a selection of different herbs has also been used. A 50 cl bottle cost €9.99.

The drink is a strong orange in the glass, reminiscent of the color of a blood orange. A strong citrus aroma is immediately apparent when you open the bottle. In addition to the orange, the aroma is herbal and slightly bitter. The taste is very soft and somewhat sweet. The first sip goes down the throat without really leaving any feelings. Analyzing it more closely, there is a hint of orange and a light herbaceousness in the taste. The bitterness only comes out in the aftertaste, but it remains quite subdued here. The whole is quite pleasant, but somehow watery, the strength of the drink is only 11%. There is sweetness, but according to my memory, Aperol was even sweeter.

Mionetto is a somewhat unnecessarily light and watery product when sipping neat, it would be better if there was clearly more bitterness. The drink gives a nice orange color to drinks and also a pleasant citrus and herbaceousness. The product is almost double the price per liter compared to Aperol. However, it does not really offer anything that has not already been seen in products of this genre.
