St.Pons Herbs herbal liqueur is produced by the Lithuanian group Vilniaus Degtine. The group’s Obeliai Distillery, located in the town of Rokiskis in northern Lithuania, is focused on making rectified spirit. Vilniaus Degtine uses Obeliai spirit for all of its own products. The company mainly produces vodka, under several different brands, but also flavored wines and liqueurs. The production of St. Pons liqueur has already been discontinued and has been replaced by a similar herbal liqueur, Sen7ses. St Pons may still be found in some stores in Lithuania. Unfortunately, no further information about the product is available. A 50cl bottle cost €6.99 a couple of years ago.
In a glass, St.Pons is a traditional dark brown, low viscosity and not at all sticky, so there is not an awful lot of sugar in the product. The aroma is light and soft, slightly herbal. The taste is light, but somehow sharp, perhaps because it doesn’t have so much sugar. It’s still a sweet, but it’s clearly less sugary than the average herbal liqueur. There’s nothing clearly distinguishable in the taste, no specific herb or spice. It tastes pretty much the same as dozens of other similar herbal liqueurs. The ethanol pushes through quite annoyingly, the liqueur is certainly not matured at all. The product is a very straightforward mixture of spirits, various herbal extracts, water and sugar. There’s nothing bad about the taste, also there’s only a hint of bitterness in the product. Since the price is also very cheap, I can recommend it to Jägermeister lovers to try it at least once.
