Žolynų is a herbal liqueur made by Latvijas Balzams to Lithuanian market. Spiritinis Gėrimas 23 is like the name says, liqueur which is made of 23 different herbs, roots and spices. Herbs used are at least linden flower, St John’s wort, lemon balm, wild chervil and spices are clove, paprika, pepper, cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. 20cl bottle bought from Norfa XXL at 2.99€.

Žolynų’s aroma is very pleasant, sweet herbs and spices. Taste is sweet on the beginning, lightly spicy and herbal. There is just enough sugar to smooth the alcohol but not too much to have a syrupy mouthfeel. Spices are stronger than herbs, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger are quite strongly featured. There is some clear and original herb on the background, what you can feel when you walk in the meadow in summer. Maybe yarrow or wild chervil. Anyway, the entirely of the Zolony is a bit tame, it’s build too cautiously and it lacks some bitter content. Taste is sweet but not too much, there is certain plenty of herbs and spices used but entirely is however a bit tame. Now it’s sweet, nice and easy drinking but that’s all and not really enough that I would buy it again.
