Bacardi is the biggest, family owned alcohol producer in the world. Established in 1882 by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso, who bought a distillery at Santiago de Cuba. He wanted to create a new kind of rum which separates from the raw and unpleasant rums of that age. By his invented carbon filtration Bacardi got lighter and new kind of white rum, easy to sip neat and suits very well on cocktails. Nowadays Bacardi is the most sold rum and on sale everywhere in the world.
Bacardi Superior is a blend of full bodied and dry, lighter rums. It’s aged on slightly burned ex-bourbon barrels 1 to 2 years. After that carbon filtered to crystal clear. A 35cl bottle cost around 10€.
It’s very light, the nose has some vanilla and fruits. Taste is neutral, there is some sweetness and fruitiness, some molasses and wood. Aromas are very gentle and light, nothing really disturbs here. Burn is mild and aftertaste is short. It’s smooth, well balanced, light rum. Very basic white rum to be used on cocktails.
