Finlandia Grapefruit (37.50%)

Together with Koskenkorva, Finlandia is the flagship product of Rajamäki Distillery, the biggest alcohol producer in Finland. Finlandia was recently sold to Brown-Forman and due to that has gained more attention in the USA market and slowly also in other continents. Finlandia Grapefruit, i.e. grapefruit-flavored vodka, was released in 2006. It’s made from barley and seasoned with grapefruit extract, which manufacturing process the company does not open unfortunately. A 50 cl bottle costs around €10 in stores.

The nose is fresh and pleasantly citrusy. The sweet grapefruit aroma comes out already when pouring into the glass, and the aroma is strong and natural when you sniff it. The viscosity is thicker compared to pure vodka and the taste has a good dose of sweetness. The grapefruit aroma is natural and brings a pleasant acidity to balance the sweetness. The taste is very soft, you hardly feel the alcohol burn. The added sugar certainly has an effect, but clearly also the rectified spirit in the base is pure and high quality. Finlandia Grapefruit really smells and tastes like grapefruit. The taste is pleasant in every way. Fresh, nicely sour-sweet and smooth. It is very easy to sip neat. Due to its fresh citrusy taste, it suits well as an aperitif drink. I also made various summer cocktails, and Finlandia Grapefruit did the job there also very well. Excellent product and is exactly what it promises.
